The City of Salina is located in north central Kansas,
near the geographic center of the contiguous United States. It is the
seventh-largest city in Kansas. Continued growth has brought the
population to over 53,000 in 2009.
Situated at the intersection of Interstate Highways 70
and 135, the City of Salina is centered in one of the largest wheat
producing areas of the world. Kansas City, Missouri and Wichita, Kansas
are 180 and 95 miles away.
Salina serves as a regional trade center for north
central Kansas. Many individuals and businesses within a 70-mile radius
travel to Salina to purchase consumer goods and services. This
designation as a regional trade center is supported by the fact that
Saline County has the third-highest retail trade pull factor of all Kansas
counties, according to the Kansas State University Extension Economic
Department.
Salina also has a large and diversified manufacturing
base, with industry leaders in lighting, sub-surface soil probing; ag
products; automotive batteries and foods.
